Good to know
- Registering a divorce costs 900 lei at the counter, or 810 lei online, and takes 25 working days. It is free (up to 3 working days) when it follows a court decision or a notarial act.
- The online route is still a pilot. A Moldovan embassy or consulate can register a divorce only on the joint declaration of both spouses, and a notary only when the spouses agree.
- If one spouse cannot apply in person, a representative with a notarised power of attorney, or a lawyer with a mandate, can. The agreement to divorce, the details of the marriage and of the other spouse, and the name after divorce are put in a notarised declaration.
- If one spouse does not come on the set day without a reason, the divorce can still be registered.

This is a pilot service.
In person
At any territorial civil status office of ASP in a district (list of offices).
Abroad
At a Moldovan embassy or consulate, for a divorce on the joint declaration only.
At a notary
Only when both spouses agree.
On what grounds can a marriage end?
- the joint request of the spouses;
- the request of one spouse together with a court judgment, when after the marriage the other spouse was placed under judicial protection (guardianship), declared missing, or sentenced to more than 3 years in prison;
- a court decision to dissolve the marriage;
- a notarial act dissolving the marriage by the spouses' agreement;
- the declaration of both or one of the spouses, when the divorce is recorded in localities on the left bank of the Dniester and in Bender.
Good to know
If the marriage record is not in the civil status archive, it must first be reconstituted, entered or certified. Documents issued abroad need an apostille or super-legalisation (for states of the Hague Convention of 1961) and a notarised Romanian translation, unless a treaty says otherwise.
Your name after the divorce
A spouse who changed their name at the wedding can keep it or go back to the earlier name, whatever the grounds for the divorce. For a divorce at ASP, an embassy or consulate or a notary, you state your choice in the divorce application.
