Married, divorced or had a child abroad: how to make it count in Moldova

A civil status document that a Moldovan citizen gets abroad has legal force in Moldova only after it is transcribed into the Moldovan register. This page puts the steps in order. Each step links to the full guide.

Good to know

  • Who this is for: Moldovan citizens who had a birth, marriage, divorce, name change or death registered abroad.
  • Transcription is done at the Moldovan embassy or consulate in the country where you are. It costs 15 euro and takes 30 calendar days.
  • Declare it within 6 months of coming back to Moldova, or of receiving the certificate from abroad.
