Certificate of capacity to marry (for marrying abroad)

Good to know

• It is an official document that proves a Moldovan citizen has the right to marry before the authorities of another state, and meets the conditions of the Moldovan Family Code for that marriage.
• The standard fee is 260 lei in 20 working days (230 lei online). Faster: 520 lei (10 working days), 780 lei (5), 1040 lei (1 working day), 1300 lei (same day).
• It is valid for 6 months from the day it is issued.
• There are two kinds: one based on CIEC Convention no. 20 (Munich, 5 September 1980) for the states that belong to it, and a national-model certificate for all other states.
• You can ask for it yourself or through an authorised person. Your parents, adult children, grandparents, adult grandchildren and adult siblings can also ask.

   You can pay online through MPay or the Payments section of EVO, by card at the counter, at a payment terminal or at a bank branch.

   Get the certificate

   If you applied online, the electronic certificate appears in your personal cabinet. People who are not the holder get it on paper.

   The paper certificate can be collected at the office or mission where you applied, at another civil status office you name, or delivered to an address in Moldova or abroad by MDelivery.

• Notarised copy of the ID of your future spouse
  if the future spouse is a foreign citizen
• Document confirming the civil status of a foreign spouse
  a civil status certificate or a certificate of capacity to marry
• Other civil status documents issued earlier, and official papers that ASP cannot get automatically through the government interoperability platform, including documents issued by foreign authorities
• Proof of kinship
  if relatives apply and the office cannot confirm it from its records
• Proof of a name change
  foreign civil status documents are handed in as originals or notarised copies
