Ask a questionA short-stay visa allows you to stay in the Republic of Moldova for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days and can be issued for one or more entries.
If you were initially given a period shorter than 90 days, the visa can be extended, but the total duration cannot exceed 90 days in the 180 days.
The extension can be made only for the same purpose for which you originally received the visa.
To request the extension, you must submit the application at least 3 working days before the visa expires, to the authority competent for foreign nationals.
The extension is applied directly in the passport, regardless of how you submitted the initial application.
The service is available both to individuals and to legal entities.

Fee details
A visa that was granted for a period of stay shorter than 90 days can be extended with new periods, so that the total duration of the stay granted does not exceed 90 calendar days during any period of 180 calendar days, which means taking into account the last 180-day period preceding each day of stay.
Fees for extending the entry visa:
For each month- 25 euro* + 50 lei (state fee);
1 day – 20 euro* + 50 lei (state fee);
3 days - 15 euro* + 50 lei (state fee);
5 days - 10 euro* + 50 lei (state fee);
*The fee is paid in national currency at the official exchange rate of the Moldovan leu valid on the date of payment.
How to apply
- Submitting the request
The application is submitted:
- in person, at the foreign nationals' documentation counters of the General Inspectorate for Migration, at least 3 working days before the expiry of the period set in the visa.
*The request to extend the visa or the duration of stay granted by the visa can be submitted by the foreign national in person, by the interested institution, organisation or enterprise, or by the legal representative.
- Examining the request
The documents will be checked to make sure that they justify the purpose of the visa and that the passport is valid and recognised by the Republic of Moldova.
After a complete file is submitted, the authority checks the applicant's history in the records of the Republic of Moldova.
At the end, a decision to approve or refuse the visa extension is taken, on the basis of the documents presented and the checks carried out.
- Issuing the visa
Within the set time, the official of the competent service hands the applicant, at the GUDS, the passport with the visa/duration of stay granted by the extended visa, which is recorded by the applicant's signature on the back of the application/request submitted.
The payment slips are attached to the file. The official of the territorial service ensures that they are sent to the Visa Section, drawing up for this purpose a dispatch list of correspondence in accordance with the established procedure.
- Refusal decision
In case of refusal to extend the visa, the passport is handed to the applicant or the legal representative against their signature on the back of the application/request, with a note that they received the passport without an extended visa.
Required documents
List of documents required to extend the visa for an INDIVIDUAL
- The standard application for extending the visa
- A written statement in free form – on the purpose of extending the visa for the Republic of Moldova
- The foreign national's state border crossing document
- A copy of the entry – exit visa
- Proof of means of subsistence
- Health insurance valid on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for the whole period of stay
- Proof of living space (the document attesting the right of ownership or use of the dwelling)
- Payment of the state fee and the service fee
- In addition to the documents mentioned above, the applicant must present supporting documents, depending on the purpose, for the extension of the visa: - the marriage certificate; - the child's birth certificate; - the medical certificate confirming the state of health of a close relative; - a valid return travel ticket/reservation to the country.

- The request/justification written in free form – on the purpose of extending the visa for the Republic of Moldova
- The foreign national's state border crossing document
- A copy of the entry – exit visa
- Proof of the existence of means of subsistence
- Health insurance valid on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for the whole period of stay
- Proof of living space for the period of stay
- Payment of the state fee and the service fee
- In addition to the documents mentioned above, the applicant must present supporting documents, depending on the purpose, for the extension of the visa: - the order enrolling the foreign national in studies; - confirmation of the existence of business relations (contracts, orders); - a valid return travel ticket/reservation to the country; - an invitation to take part in a conference, seminar, courses, sports competitions or cultural events, which will include the name, place and time of the event
