Maternity allowance in Moldova

For insured women, wives dependent on an insured husband and unemployed women who are on maternity leave and receive an allowance from the social insurance system.

Good to know

  • The allowance is given to women on maternity leave from week 30 of pregnancy, for 126 calendar days. It is 140 days for complicated births or the birth of two children.
  • With three or more babies, it is paid in full from week 24, for 182 calendar days.
  • Insured women have the right to it whatever the length of their contribution record.
  • A wife who depends on an insured husband needs him to be insured and to have a contribution record of at least 3 years in total, or at least 9 months in the last 24 months before the insured event.
  • If the leave overlaps with a period in which the woman earned an insured income, the allowance is still paid. It is calculated from the insured income of whichever spouse gives the higher amount.
  • You do not apply: it is granted on the basis of the information in the maternity leave medical certificate that the medical institution sends. It is examined within 15 calendar days of receiving the data (up to 45 days if the information is incomplete).
